Red Dead Redemption PS4 Download: Everything You Need to Know
For anyone who hadn't yet had the chance to play the original Red Dead Redemption or its expansion Undead Nightmare on a PlayStation console, the games have both been removed from the PS Plus lineup after six years of being on it. Gamers were made aware of the removal of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare previously, but alongside marking their disappearance from the subscription service, it also means that the games are no longer playable on modern Sony machines.
The obvious place to start is the disc version of the original release. The Game of the Year edition also includes the Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare DLC and various other add-ons. You can still pick up both versions easily via eBay or Amazon.

Why can't you download a PlayStation 4 game or update when there should be enough room on the hard drive? How come your PS4 won't let you download any new PS4 games or patches? When you go to download or install a new game or patch for your PS4, sometimes it might claim you don't have enough space in system storage. However, when you check for yourself, it looks like there should be plenty of room. What's that about? How come you can't install something even though you should have enough storage? Let's go through everything in this quick guide.

If you're trying to download a game, or even just an update for a game you already have installed, your PS4 might tell you there's not enough free space in system storage. It's possible your hard drive is simply too full, and you legitimately have used up all possible room. However, sometimes that isn't the case.
Sometimes, your PS4 will refuse to complete a download, even when it looks like you should have plenty of space left on your hard drive. Why is it doing this? Well, it all ties into that lengthy copying process your PS4 goes through whenever you install a game or update. Let's use an example to explain what's happening.
Say you've just bought Red Dead Redemption 2, a game that takes up a minimum of 105GB according to PlayStation Store. Let's also say you know that your hard drive happens to have 150GB of space free, meaning you should be able to install the game with no issues. You try to set it to download, only for your PS4 to tell you there's not enough space.
The problem is that, whenever your PS4 downloads a game, it's also downloading all the updates to ensure you're getting the most recent version. This can seriously inflate the game's file size beyond what's advertised on PlayStation Store pages. Downloading a game plus any patches will require more space than it might first appear. However, that's not all.
Let's say you're trying to download a patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and your PS4 says there's not enough room, even though there should be. The reason you can't download and install the update is because of the aforementioned copying procedure. When you download an update, your PS4 then makes a second copy of the game file, adds the update, installs this new version of the game, then removes the outdated version. In other words, your PS4 needs around double the storage space for a game in order to download and update it. For example, if you have 30GB free and a 2GB patch for Call of Duty: Warzone arrives, you won't be able to download it until you make some extra room -- enough to technically install Warzone twice on your hard drive. The old version will be deleted, which frees up some space again, but you need that extra space free in the first place.
The answer, unfortunately, is to ensure you have as much hard drive storage as you can. If you have a PS4 with the standard 500GB hard drive, you'll probably find it fills up pretty quickly. In order to download and install new games, you will probably have to delete some older titles. Remove the game data for some games you don't play anymore to keep your hard drive as clutter free as possible.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be part of the service "exclusively via PS4/PS5 download" until 1st November 2021. We have to assume this is a result of the deal Sony managed to strike with Rockstar in order to bring the western epic to PS Now, but it's interesting to see the service evolve to the point where one of its premier titles doesn't even offer the feature it was originally built upon.
When Grand Theft Auto V was added to PS Now back in October 2019 before later leaving the service, GTA Online and the Rockstar Games Social Club were not available in the streaming version. This drawback was later updated to include streamers, with the PlayStation Blog updated to say: "Online features are now available for the streaming version of Grand Theft Auto V. However, the Diamond Casino mode is currently only available in the downloaded version." Could the fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 can only be played via PS Now by downloading it have something to do with Red Dead Online, then? It's possible given what happened previously with GTA 5.
Definitely. I wouldn't even mind all of PS Now being download only. Streaming is unreliable at the best of times and the only advantage I see in it (saving space) is not relevant to me since I delete apps once I complete the games.
Agreed this is likely to stop PC players getting it too which would be another deal. BUT it may also help convince people that you can download most games on PS Now. I STILL see a lot of people misunderstand that it's not JUST a streaming service. I've advocated for a rebrand for this reason for a while especially if they start trying to compete with Game Pass a little more (which the last few months seem to suggest)
@Voltan you can create an American account and buy a subscription for ps now, make it a primary account on your ps4 and play all of what they have to offer streaming or download. I do that because there is no official support for ps now in my region. I didn't face any kind of problem streaming, I played sly cooper and other games and faced no problem, as long as your internet is fast enough.
For years I thought PS Now was only for streaming PS3 games, I even somehow missed the news when it allowed downloading PS4 games, yes that's how bad PS Now marketing is, and you can still see many people mixing this up thinking it's only for streaming!
But now that I have it, it's a great service and I mostly download games for maximum experience and wish it allows for all games to be downloaded, I know emulating PS3 games is a big challenge but I'm also sure PS5 can handle it, so fingers crossed they make it happen because downloading the games is much more reliable than streaming them!
Red Dead Redemption 2 releases Oct. 26, which means we'll be exploring the wild west on horseback in just a few short weeks. If you bought a digital version of Red Dead 2, you'll need to make sure you have enough room on your console's hard drive, and have enough time, to download the game before it officially releases.
On the Xbox side, the general consensus online is that Microsoft opens up preloading a week or two before release. This means we should be able to start downloading Red Dead 2 on our Xbox Ones any day now. According to a post from GTA Base, Gamestop seemingly revealed a preload date of Oct. 12. That's just around the corner!
You'll want to preload Red Dead Redemption 2 if you bought a digital copy, because this game is massive. The download size for RDR2 is 105GB on PS4 and 110GB on Xbox One. That could take multiple days for someone with a slow internet connection to finish downloading. Preloading allows g
